FEMISE is pleased to announce that starting January 2017, Dr. Ibrahim Elbadawi, has become the new President of FEMISE as well as the New Managing Director of the Economic Research Forum, Cairo, Egypt.
Prior to joining FEMISE and ERF, Dr. Elbadawi was the Director of the Macroeconomics Research Department at the Dubai Economic Council since March 2009. Before that, he was Lead Economist at the Development Research Group of the World Bank from 1989 until February 2009. Dr. Elbadawi holds a PhD in economics and statistics from North Carolina State and Northwestern universities in the USA.
Dr. Elbadawi’s has published widely and his main areas of research interests are macroeconomic and development policy, labour markets, as well topics related to economics of civil wars and post-conflict transitions. His regional specialization covers Africa and the Middle East, where he is widely networked with academic research and policy forums.
The FEMISE team is very pleased to have Dr. Elbadawi on-board for this new phase, continuing the productive collaboration between the North and South of the Mediterranean and making contribution to the development of the EU-Med region.
We would also like to thank Dr. Ahmed Galal for his substantial contributions and achievements during his term as the President of FEMISE. He helped elevate the quality of the research and the relevance of the network to respond to the growing needs of the region. His insights will always be appreciated as a member of FEMISE.
